The Orchard

If you are looking for a holiday home that is full of personality and rustic charm, The Orchard is a fantastic choice. This delightful "upside-down" cottage sits next to the owners' farmhouse on a non-working farm, offering a peaceful rural escape just a few miles from Okehampton. It is a wonderful base for families or friends who want to switch off and enjoy the beautiful Devon countryside.

Inside, the cottage is packed with character. The layout is spread over three floors, making it a bit of an adventure in itself! On the ground floor, you will find a comfortable king-size bedroom and a modern shower room. Wooden stairs lead up to the first floor, which is the heart of the home. Here, you will find a quirky open-plan living area with vaulted beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. It features a well-equipped kitchen, a dining area, and a cosy sitting space with a wood-burning stove—perfect for relaxing after a day on the moors.

There is also a separate annexe area connected to the main living space, offering even more flexibility. This includes a romantic four-poster bedroom with its own bathroom (complete with a whirlpool bath!) and another comfortable sitting area with its own woodburner. Finally, a second set of stairs leads up to a lovely mezzanine twin bedroom on the top floor.

The outside space is just as special. To the front, there is an enclosed patio with a private hot tub tucked under a pergola with a sliding roof, so you can enjoy a soak whatever the weather. It is the perfect spot to relax and watch the owners' horses grazing in the meadows. To the rear, there is another enclosed garden with seating, offering stunning views over Yes Tor, the highest point on Dartmoor.

You are in a brilliant location for exploring. The Dartmoor National Park is right on your doorstep for walking and cycling, while the stunning beaches of Bude and Widemouth Bay are within easy reach for a day at the seaside. The owners, Peter and Jackie, are known for their warm welcome, often greeting guests with a delicious cream tea to start the holiday off right.
