A delightful traditional stone cottage near Okehampton featuring a private hot tub, countryside views, and friendly farm animal neighbours.
If you are looking for a peaceful countryside escape where you can wake up to the sound of nature, Barley Meadow is a wonderful find. This charming, traditional stone cottage sits next to the owners' farmhouse on a non-working farm, surrounded by rolling meadows grazed by ponies. It is a fantastic rural retreat for a family or group of friends who want to explore the heart of Devon while enjoying a quiet, relaxing base.
Inside, the cottage is spacious and welcoming. There are two reception rooms, giving everyone plenty of space to spread out. The sitting room features a large sofa bed, offering flexibility for larger groups, while the dining room is perfect for family meals. The large kitchen comes with a breakfast table, making it a lovely spot for a morning coffee before you head out for the day.
Upstairs, you will find three comfortable bedrooms: a double and two singles, all served by a family bathroom with both a bath and a separate walk-in shower. There is also a handy cloakroom on the ground floor.
The outside space is a real highlight, especially for families and pet owners. The large, private garden at the side of the cottage is a safe haven for children and dogs to play. For the adults, it is the perfect spot to unwind with a drink, enjoy an alfresco meal on the patio, or sink into the bubbling hot tub. A special part of staying here is meeting the friendly neighbours—you might spot sheep, horses, and chickens coming up to the fence to say hello!
You are perfectly placed for exploring. The Dartmoor National Park is close by for hiking and pony trekking, while the Granite Way cycle route offers amazing views and pub stops. The market town of Okehampton is just a short drive away, with a cinema, museum, and heritage railway. The owners, Peter and Jackie, are renowned for their warm hospitality, often welcoming guests with thoughtful touches like a cream tea to start the holiday in true Devon style.
