About Quarryfield

Quarryfield is the sort of place where three generations arrive on a Friday afternoon, and nobody wants to leave on Sunday. Set in the countryside above Munlochy on the Black Isle, just six miles from Inverness, it has the space, the grounds, and the sheer number of things to do that make large group holidays actually work.

The heart of the house is a huge open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting room that seats sixteen around one table. Tall ceilings and exposed wooden roof beams give the room scale without losing warmth, and a stone fireplace anchors the sitting area. Tartan fabrics run through the furnishings, and it feels like a proper Highland house rather than a rental trying too hard. The kitchen is seriously well-equipped, with two dishwashers, a drinks fridge, and enough space to cook for a crowd. A cook is available for hire, too, which takes the pressure off celebrations entirely.

Beyond the main living space, a conservatory floods with natural light and leads through to a games room with a full-size snooker table, table tennis, darts, and an L-shaped sofa for anyone who would rather watch than play. Between the games room, the tennis court, and the grounds outside, rainy days and restless teenagers are genuinely not a problem here.

Nine bedrooms are spread across both floors, with two king-size doubles on the ground floor, each with en-suite bathrooms. Upstairs, there are further king-size rooms, a single, a family suite, and a twin, all with their own bathrooms, so there are no queues at half seven in the morning. Most beds are zip-link and can be configured as twins on request, making it easy to mix couples and kids or friends sharing. The rooms look out over the countryside in every direction, and the Anta fabrics throughout keep the Highland feel consistent without being twee.

Outside, the grounds are what really set Quarryfield apart. A full-size tennis court, a climbing frame for younger children, a half-moon patio for evening drinks, and a sprawling lawn that stretches toward rolling hills. The hot tub is the kind of thing you settle into after a long day of golf or a morning spent walking up to the Munlochy Bay viewpoint, where the Moray Firth opens up below you, and dolphins sometimes break the surface. Dogs are welcome, and the enclosed garden means they can be off the lead without you worrying.

There is space for eight cars. Jane, the housekeeper, meets you on arrival and is always a text away without ever hovering. Over the festive season, a large Christmas tree and decorations appear in the dining hall, which makes December bookings genuinely special.

Munlochy is 1.3 miles away for essentials, and Inverness is a straightforward six-mile drive for supermarkets, restaurants, and town. Golfers will find Royal Dornoch, Nairn Golf Club, Brora, and the local course at Fortrose and Rosemarkie all within easy reach. Culloden Battlefield, Loch Ness, and the Moray coast are close enough for day trips, and there is more than enough at the house itself to fill the days you want to stay put.
