About Green Barn

Green Barn is a brand-new barn conversion sitting behind the Grade II* listed Onesacre Hall in a 17th-century hamlet where Sheffield meets the Peak District. The building is new but the setting is centuries old, and the conversion makes the most of both. Walk in and the ground floor is one big open space: kitchen, dining, and living area flowing together under high ceilings.

The kitchen island is built from railway sleepers, a solid slab of reclaimed timber running down the centre with a double electric oven, induction hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, and wine cooler around it. This is a kitchen that works for proper cooking, and the island is where everyone ends up. Beyond it, a corner sofa faces a 78-inch TV, and the lighting throughout runs to around 32 switches, letting you set whatever mood the evening calls for. A utility room off to the side handles the washing machine and tumble dryer, with space for muddy boots and coats after a day on the trails.

Upstairs, all three bedrooms have king-size beds. The master has a private en-suite and those French doors opening to the glass balustrade, where the valley and the countryside beyond fill the whole frame. The family bathroom has both a bath and a walk-in shower with twin basins, and a ground-floor shower room covers things if you're coming in from outside. Underfloor heating keeps the stone floors warm throughout.

Throw open the French doors and the living space extends into a large south-facing garden that catches the sun all day. Rattan seating, a lawned area big enough for dogs to stretch their legs, and the hot tub at the far end. Two dogs are welcome, and the stone floors downstairs handle paws without fuss. Parking is off-road and shared around the property, with secure bike storage if you're bringing wheels.

Oughtibridge is under a mile away and has more going on than you'd expect. Five pubs, a village shop, cafes, and takeaways. The Pheasant does food worth walking for, the Cock Inn is worth a visit too, and the walk back is hilly enough to feel earned. Sheffield city centre is around 10 minutes by car, with a food scene and night out that hold their own. The area is popular with road cyclists and mountain bikers, with trails heading out in every direction from the front door.

The Peak District is close enough for day trips without it feeling like a drive. Guided walks, climbing, horse riding, and water sports are all within reach. Chatsworth House and its gardens are worth the trip, whatever the season. Wentworth Woodhouse and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park are both about 30 minutes the other way.

Simon, the owner, is always around for local tips without ever hovering. The kind of host who makes the whole stay smoother without you quite realising how.
