If you're looking for a spacious and characterful retreat away from the crowds, Near Bank Cottage is a hidden gem. This beautiful 17th-century detached farmhouse sits in a peaceful, remote spot on the western side of the Lake District National Park. It offers incredible views stretching across the Irish Sea towards the Isle of Man, making it a truly tranquil escape for a large family or group of friends.
The cottage itself is bursting with history and charm. Inside, you'll find original beams and even an old safe in the sitting room, adding to the authentic atmosphere. The living area is warm and inviting, with a cosy wood-burning stove that is perfect for gathering around after a day of exploring the fells. The kitchen is well-equipped for catering to a large group, with plenty of dining space for everyone to eat together.
There are four comfortable bedrooms to choose from, including a convenient ground-floor king-size room. Upstairs, there is a double, a twin, and a spacious family room with two double beds, offering great flexibility for different group makeups.
The outside space is a real highlight. You can soak up the stunning scenery from the private seven-seater hot tub, which is the perfect place to relax and watch the sunset over the sea. However, the standout feature for many groups is the fantastic external games room. Housed in an adjoining barn, it's equipped with table tennis, a pool table, and air hockey. It provides a brilliant separate space for fun and friendly competition, whatever the weather.
The location is perfect for those who love the outdoors but prefer a quieter pace. You are just over a mile from the village of Waberthwaite, famous for its traditional Cumberland sausages. A short drive takes you to the coastal town of Ravenglass, where you can hop on the famous La'al Ratty steam railway to explore the Eskdale Valley. You are also close to the magnificent Muncaster Castle and the dramatic scenery of Wastwater and Scafell Pike. The owner, Kath, is known for being wonderfully helpful and ensuring everything is perfect for your stay.
