About Lilleskov

Lilleskov sits in a pocket of oak woodland above the Nidd valley, one of a handful of Scandinavian-style lodges at Springwood, built exclusively for couples. The site covers 29 acres of mature oaks, and the lodge itself feels tucked away, screened by trees on every side. Woodland paths loop right from the door, with woodpeckers drumming overhead and enough birdlife to keep you stopping every few minutes. The setting alone does most of the work.

Inside, the lodge is compact but well finished. The bedroom has a king-size four-poster bed, solid and comfortable, with enough room around it to not feel tight. A bath with overhead shower sits adjacent, tiled cleanly and simply. The living area is open plan, with a log burner that heats the whole space within minutes on a cold afternoon. Light it in the evening and the smell of woodsmoke mixes with the damp oak outside. The kitchen is kitted out for proper cooking. On bright mornings, the light filtering through the canopy fills the room.

The sauna is a real bonus and not something you find at many lodges this size. It warms up fast and pairs well with the hot tub outside, which sits on a private stretch of decking facing the valley. On a clear night, there is no light pollution to speak of, and the combination of hot water, cold air, and total silence is hard to beat. During the day, the view opens up across Nidderdale, which carries its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty designation for good reason.

Everything at Springwood is geared towards quiet. There are no large family groups on site, no children running between lodges, and no shared facilities to navigate. You are left entirely alone, which is exactly the point. The privacy is the real draw.

Pateley Bridge is barely a five-minute drive away and well worth the trip. The high street has a solid run of independent shops and cafes, and the oldest sweet shop in England if that sort of thing appeals. For a bigger day out, Harrogate is about eight miles east, with Bettys tea rooms, the Valley Gardens, and the kind of town centre that rewards an unhurried wander. Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden sit between the two and make for a full half-day out.

Back at the lodge, the evening routine tends to settle into the same shape: log burner lit, sauna warming up, hot tub waiting on the decking. The woodland goes quiet after dark, and with no reason to be anywhere else, you stay put.
